Start with your bottleneck

Several tools may fit the same researcher. The strongest choice depends on the next meaningful deliverable.

Labrix fits best when

You want a full report on a research paper every month without paying, with every match shown beside its source text and quoted, cited and reference-list matches counted apart. Its corpus is open research, Wikipedia and books plus a web search, smaller than the commercial databases.

Scribbr or Paperpal fit best when

You need the largest database before a high-stakes submission. Both compare against billions of web pages and scholarly publications; Scribbr charges per document and Paperpal includes a monthly allowance.

Grammarly or QuillBot fit best when

You already pay for their writing tools and want the plagiarism check inside the same subscription.

Common questions

How was this comparison made?
On 17 October 2026 we read each company’s own plan, pricing and help pages and quoted their figures; every page is linked under the sources. We did not run test papers through the other checkers, so this compares what each plan includes, not how well each one detects copying. A monthly allowance resets each month; Scribbr’s prices are per check. Labrix counts a page as 250 words. A full report here means every matched passage shown with its source.
Which free plagiarism checker gives the most words?
Of the five checked on 17 October 2026, Labrix’s free account (30 pages, about 7,500 words a month, with the full report) and Paperpal’s free plan (7,000 words a month, with a standard report) give the most. Grammarly and QuillBot leave plagiarism checking out of their free plans, and Scribbr charges per check.
Will my score match Turnitin’s?
No checker matches Turnitin exactly, because each compares against its own databases. Use a pre-submission check to find and fix overlap, not to predict an institution’s number.
Is my paper added to a database?
Labrix never adds your draft to its comparison corpus, and Scribbr says the same of its checker. Read each tool’s terms before uploading unpublished work.
