Frequently asked questions
- How does the journal finder choose journals?
- It searches OpenAlex, an open index of over 300 million scholarly works, for the 100 articles and reviews of the last five years closest to your title and abstract, and ranks the journals that published them. The closest papers count most, and so do papers on your topic. Every journal is listed with the similar papers it published, so you can see why it is there.
- Can it show only Scopus-indexed journals, with their quartile?
- Yes, and that is the default. A journal counts as Scopus-indexed when it is in the Scimago Journal Rank list, which is built from Scopus. Each one shows its best Scimago quartile (Q1 to Q4), its SJR score, citations per paper over two years and its h-index.
- Does it show the impact factor?
- The Journal Impact Factor is a Clarivate figure that is not openly available. Labrix shows Scimago’s citations per paper over two years, which measures the same idea from Scopus data, and the SJR score, which also weighs where the citations come from.
- Does it show publication fees?
- It shows whether a journal is open access and the article fee OpenAlex lists for it. For a subscription journal, publishing is free unless you choose open access, and the fee shown is for that option. Fees change, so confirm on the journal’s own site before you submit.
- How do I avoid predatory journals?
- Prefer journals in the Scopus list or the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), check that the journal’s site lists a real editorial board and a clear peer-review process, and compare its recent papers with your work. Journals outside the Scopus list are hidden by default and marked when you show them.
- Is it free, and is my abstract stored?
- It is free with no account: 10 searches a day per browser. Your title and abstract are not stored. The suggestions for them are kept for a week, under a code made from the text, so the same search answers at once.
